Comprehensive Car Insurance

Your car is more than something that gets you from A to B. It’s your daily commute, and for some your pride and joy. So make sure you’ve got the right level of cover with TIO Car Insurance.

Accidental loss of or damage to your car
Rest easy, we’ve got you covered for damage or accidental loss caused by theft, attempted theft, collisions, malicious damage and fire, and natural events such as hail, storm, flood or bushfire.
New for old replacement of a new car
New for old replacement of a new vehicle after a total loss, if you purchased your vehicle new from the manufacturer or dealer and your vehicle is less than 2 years old from its first registration at the time it is declared a total loss.
Child seat or baby capsule
Following a covered accident, we may choose to replace or pay the amount of loss or damage of any child seat or baby capsule in your vehicle up to the value of $500 in any one incident.
Emergency repairs
We will reimburse you up to $500 for the cost of emergency repairs which may be necessary to enable you to drive your car home after a covered accident.
Emergency accommodation and travelling expenses
We will pay up to $1,000 for any reasonable additional travel or accommodation expenses incurred by you as a result of a covered accident, provided that at the time of the covered accident your car was more than 100 kilometres from where it is normally parked at night.
Lock re-keying / re-coding
We will pay up to $1,000 for replacement keys or necessary re-coding if your keys are stolen.
Personal items
We will pay you up to $1,000 for the accidental damage to or theft of personal effects or clothing which were stolen from your locked car or were in your stolen or damaged car that we have accepted a claim for.
Rental car after theft
If we have accepted your claim for theft of your vehicle we will arrange for you to be provided with a rental car for a maximum of 30 days. The maximum daily rental charge we will pay is $100.
Towing
We will pay the reasonable cost of towing your car to the nearest repairer, place of safety or another agreed upon place, after a covered accident.
Trailer and caravan cover
We will pay the lesser of market value or $1,000 for accidental loss or accidental damage to any trailer or caravan which was attached to your vehicle at the time of a covered incident.
Transportation costs
If your vehicle cannot be safely driven home after a covered accident we will reimburse you up to $500 for you to get home and to collect your vehicle once it is repaired.
Legal liability
We will cover up to $20,000,000 to cover your legal liability for loss of or damage to someone else’s property which is caused by a car accident which is partly or fully your fault, for any one event or series of events.
Legal costs
We will pay for all legal costs and expenses in defending any court proceedings arising from a claim for liability covered by the policy.
Optional Benefit
Rental car following an accident
We will pay for the cost of a rental car following an accident for up to 30 days to a maximum of $100 per day.
Optional Benefit
Removal of basic excess for windscreen claims
We will remove Your Basic excess for 1 replacement claim and 2 repairs in any period of insurance (windscreen or window glass). Only applies where damage to windscreen is the only damage to the vehicle.

Tools of trade
We will cover up to $3,000 cover for accidental loss or damage to any tools of trade, stock and materials if we accepted a claim for accidental loss or accidental damage to your vehicle.

Comprehensive Car Insurance provides cover for fire, theft, accidents and malicious damage to your car. It also covers your legal liability for loss or damage to someone else’s property caused by a car accident which is partly or fully your fault.

Third Party Property Damage (Legal Liability) Car Insurance covers your legal liability for loss or damage to someone else’s property caused by a car accident which is partly or fully your fault.

Yes. In the event that your son/daughter is involved in an accident in your vehicle and is not listed as a nominated driver on your insurance, he/she may have to pay a higher Age excess for drivers not listed on your policy schedule in addition to Your Basic excess, on condition that TIO chooses to accept the claim. If they were listed on the policy, you would pay a lower Age excess in addition to Your Basic excess.
In addition to Your Basic excess, he/she will also be required to pay an “Age excess” for drivers under the age of 25 listed on your policy schedule. All excesses are displayed on your current car insurance policy schedule.
A new stereo is considered a non-standard accessory. To ensure you are covered, you need to let us know the details of your new stereo and its value to ensure it is covered by your car insurance policy. You need to do this for all non-standard accessories including (but not limited to) aftermarket wheels and spoiler. You also need to let us know of any modifications that you have made to your vehicle to ensure you are covered in the event of a car insurance claim. Remember to keep a record of your purchases.
You need to let us know the details of all modifications made to your car to ensure they are covered in the event of a claim. Yes, if you already have an existing policy with TIO, we will continue to provide you with insurance for your motor vehicle if you move interstate. However, please remember to update your details by calling our contact centre on 131 846.
If you chose to pay your premium via direct debit you are only able to pay monthly, and will incur a service fee of 11%. Alternatively you can pay annually, which does not have any additional fees.

1. Minimum premium

Minimum premiums may apply. Any discounts/entitlements may be subject to rounding and only apply to the extent any minimum premium is not reached. If you are eligible for more than one, we also apply each of them in a predetermined order to the premium (excluding taxes and government charges) as reduced by any prior applied discounts/entitlements. Discounts may not be applied to the premium for optional covers.

2. We cover anyone who drives your car

We cover anyone you give permission to drive your car unless the driver is excluded by the policy or is noted as a declined driver on your policy schedule. Additional excesses apply (in addition to Your Basic excess) for the following:

  • Age Excess: drivers under the age of 25 listed on the policy schedule - $600, driver under the age of 25 not listed on your policy schedule - $1800
  • Unnamed driver excess: if you choose to reduce your premium by naming drivers on your policy, an unnamed driver will incur a $2,500 excess (this replaces all other excesses)

3. Removal of basic excess for windscreen claims

When the removal of basic excess for windscreen claims policy option is selected, and the windscreen or window glass in your vehicle is accidentally broken or damaged, we will not apply Your Basic excess to your claim. This option only applies:

  1. To one replacement claim plus two repair claims in any one period of insurance; and
  2. If the broken windscreen or window glass is the only damage to your vehicle.

4. Named driver

Named driver discount applies to comprehensive car insurance policies only. Up to 5% named driver discount is applied when you select this option and name all drivers on your policy at the time of purchase. This discount is applied to our standard rates (excluding optional covers). If you choose to reduce your premium by naming drivers on your policy, an unnamed driver will incur a $2,500 excess (this replaces Your Basic excess and all other excesses where applicable).

5. Choose your repairer

We may authorise repairs by your chosen repairer, or pay you reasonable repair cost or the car’s agreed or market value.
