- Ask for a higher excess
An excess is the amount of money you contribute towards the cost of a claim before the insurance company pays for the rest of the damage. Higher excesses mean lower premiums for you. For example, if your car has an excess of $300 and you increase it to $1100 you could save up to 25% on your premium, potentially saving you hundreds of dollars each year. Terms and Conditions apply.
- Have other insurance with TIO
Simply by adding your home building, contents or boat to your existing insurance policy, you can automatically save up to 5% on your insurance premium. Having all of your insurances on one policy means just the one premium, payable monthly, yearly or half yearly.
- Do you need Comprehensive cover on an older car?
If you own a car that's low in value, you'll probably pay more for your cover that you would collect in the event of a Total Loss claim. It may be more viable for you to select a less expensive coverage such as Third Party Only or Third Party plus Fire and Theft cover.
As a guide you can find how much your car is generally worth by visiting the website Red Book.
- Consider insurance when buying a car
If you're looking at buying a car, think about the cost of insuring the car. Cars that are expensive to repair or that have a high theft rate generally have higher insurance costs. For example, a small 4 cylinder car is likely to be cheaper to insure that a high performance V8 vehicle, especially if you are under 21 years of age.
- Seniors Discounts
If you 60 years of age or older, you can save up to 10% on your Insurance. If you make a claim then the excess will be waived or the first claim made in each insurance period, This will only apply where the amount of the claim exceeds the amount of the excess. For example, if the excess is $300 and your damage is $200 you cannot make a claim. If your damage exceeds your excess we will pay all entitlements. Terms and conditions apply.
