Play It Safe Program

The Play It Safe program seeks a commitment from sporting bodies to support the delivery of road safety education to young players as part of their sponsorship agreement with TIO and includes:
- Commitment from clubs to adopt the Play It Safe Road Safety Guidelines and promote a positive road safety culture within their clubs
- Implementing key policies relating to road safety within their clubs
- Hosting Play It Safe Club Nights to deliver education sessions to young players in vulnerable age groups.
The program has been embraced by the AFL (NT), NT Cricket and NT Rugby Union to date.
Club Nights provide interactive road safety education sessions at sports clubs targeting an audience of 15-20 year olds, covering road safety for drivers, passengers, pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists.
During the session, Fatal Vision Goggles are used to demonstrate the physical impairment caused by being under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The goggles impair a sober participant's vision, balance, perception and coordination in line with the effects of levels of alcohol and drug consumption.
Club Nights are delivered by TIO road safety officers with support from Police, St John Ambulance and Emergency Services.
